It’s been a week since the memorial service for the "Phenomenal 6", the children killed in the deadliest house fire South Bend has seen in 100 years. Three of the victims were part of the SBCSC family. Eleven year old Angel Smith attended Navarre Middle School, while her siblings 10 year old Demetris and 9 year old Davida went to Madison S.T.E.A.M. Academy.

Matthew Pandori-Tessely won 2nd place in 2024 and 3rd place in 2023 through the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters Competition..
Mason Cuevas won 1st Place for Photojournalism in 2022, Alex Almanza won 1st Place in 2020, David Saleh won 2nd place in 2021 and Rafael Tortolero won 2nd place in 2023.
Alex Almanza won 1st Place for Live TV News Anchor in the 2020 Indiana Association of School Broadcasters Competition. During college he worked for Newslink at Ball State, as well as an editor and reporter for WNDU in South Bend, Indiana. He currently works for WTHR in Indianapolis.
Sageoniah Groll won 2nd Place for Live Radio News Anchor in 2023.
Matthew Pandori-Tessely won 3rd Place for Live Radio News Anchor in 2022.
